Today I was working on a novel that I started six months ago. It’s been slow because I didn’t have a plan, I just slammed out the first four chapters, then wrote the last three chapters. A novel without a middle? Like an empty bun? brother!
Now I have to build some kind of roadmap to get the characters from the beginning to end. Or, I might just put it aside again. I like to write novels but the birthing of them is long and painful sometimes.

Sounds like a story I’ve been turning over since school. I wrote a fantastic opening and a very dramatic ending but the middle is a long trek through no where and very little happens. Admittedly the task was to write a short story so I hacked out every unnecessary character and complication. Every couple of months, usually inbetween other projects, I pull it out and add a bit here and there. I actually have a plan now but I think I just like playing with this story. It is like an old friend.
Wishing you luck with your story.

Thank you. Maybe that’s why I struggle with this novel. At one point I had turned it into a short story. Today I was thinking I might pull my ending closer to the beginning, then write toward a new ending. If that makes sense…
